The Mexican walking fish, formally known as the axolotl (meaning “water monster”), is actually a lake-dwelling salamander and not a fish. By all means, their appearance far from depicts a “water monster”, but rather a water cutie!
They’re amphibians with unusual characteristics; they don’t develop lungs and take to land like most amphibians, but remain in the marine environment. In the wild, they’re marked as critically endangered.
